Most Reverend John Stephen Michaud, Second Bishop of Burlington

Birthdate: November 24, 1843, Burlington, Vermont, the son of Etienne and Catherine Rogan Michaud.

Education: Bryant and Stratton Business College, Burlington, Vermont; Petit Seminaire, Montreal, Canada; Holy Cross College, Worcester, Massachusetts; St. Joseph’s Seminary, Troy New York.

Ordination to the Priesthood: June 7, 1873, Troy, by Bishop Wadhams, of Ogdensburg.  Engaged in pastoral work in the Diocese of Burlington, 1873-1892.

Ordination to the Episcopacy: Elevated by Pope Leo XIII to the titular See of Modra, May 4, 1892 and appointed coadjutor bishop of Burlington.
Consecrated, June 29, 1892, Burlington, by Archbishop Williams, of Boston, assisted by Bishop Bradley, of Manchester, and Bishop Gabriels, of Ogdensburg.  Succeeded to the See of Burlington, November 3, 1899.

Death: Died at 63, December 22, 1908, New York; buried, Resurrection Park, South Burlington, Vermont.  Years of episcopacy: 16 years; 9 years, 1 month and 19 days as Bishop of Burlington.
